Winter Wonderland Popcorn Snowballs
I love a long winter day, but I remember just how long those days felt when my kids were little and the
joy of being snowed in had already worn off by 8 am. Finding fun activities to do when you are in for
a long winter cap can be tricky! I hope these fun sweets and ideas will bring some joy during those cold
winter days!
Popcorn Snowballs
1/2c popcorn kernels popped or 16 cups total of your favorite pre-cooked popcorn
14 oz Marshmallows
6 Tbsp butter
½ tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup white chocolate
White sugar crystals
Disposable paintbrush or pastry brush
Dowel rods or Sucker Sticks
1. In a heavy bottom pan, melt butter and marshmallows, stirring constantly until the marshmallows
have completely melted.
2. Remove from heat, stir in salt, vanilla, and popcorn.
3. Spray your hands with nonstick spray and work quickly to form a handful of popcorn into a ball
shape. Repeat until all popcorn has been used. Insert a dowel rod or sucker stick in each
snowball and allow the popcorn balls to cool.
4. Place chocolate in a microwave-safe dish. Cook the chocolate in 20-second intervals, stirring
between, until the white chocolate has completely melted.
5. Using a pastry or disposable clean brush, brush white chocolate lightly around each snowball
and immediately coat it with sugar crystals. Repeat until all chocolate has been used and
snowballs are covered. To serve, place one cup of sugar on a serving tray to help keep snowballs
from rolling off of the tray. Keep snowballs in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
Winter activities:
Snowflake garland: Start with a 4-5’ piece of parchment paper. Fold the paper accordion style in 4” folds
and cut the length into 3 sections. Use your scissors to cut out a snowflake shape, being careful to not
cut too much of the seam. Extend and repeat. Use garland to decorate during the winter.
Paper Airplane Target: Use washi tape to create a three-ring bullseye pattern on a tile or hardwood
floor. You will want the outer circle to be at least 3’ across. Each player will need to create their own
paper airplane. To play, each player takes a turn flying their airplane to the bullseye with the goal to hit
the center.
